AHMEDABAD: A United Nations human rights team led by Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Asma Jahangir, visited Gujarat on Sunday to oversee the relief and rehabilitation of the 2002 communal riot victims in the State.

She met some of the riot-hit families and visited the makeshift camps where some of the affected families were still living.

Ms. Jahangir also visited the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram as well as the Sarkhej Roza, a famous shrine of the Muslims in Ahmedabad. She also called on Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the Director-General of Police P.C. Pandey in Gandhinagar. She described her visit to the State as a “pleasant one.”
