NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested arms dealer Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjeev Nanda, and Deputy Director of Income Tax Ashutosh Verma in Mumbai for allegedly manipulating evidence in an income tax case they are involved in.

Mr. Nanda, accused of receiving kickbacks in the purchase of Israeli Barak missiles in 2000, his son and their chartered accountant were arrested for bribing Mr. Verma, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1999 batch, to manipulate their account books in an income tax case.

The deal was taking place at a Mumbai hotel on Saturday night when the CBI conducted the raid and arrested the four.

Mr. Sanjeev Nanda is also an accused in the capital’s BMW hit-and-run case.

The four have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.
