Suresh, Aashish and Ashwin scalp five each

Vidyut cracks a hundred for Alwarpet

CHENNAI: Five-wicket hauls from A.K. Suresh, Aashish Kapoor, and R. Ashwin and a century from S. Vidyut were the highlights of the first day’s play in the eighth round of the TNCA first division cricket league here on Saturday.

At Murugappa, Parry’s right-arm medium-pacer Suresh took six for 49, as IOB was dismissed for 189. R. Rajesh Kannan’s fighting 92 at No. eight and his partnership of 90 with K. Sasi Kumar (6) for the tenth wicket rescued IOB, which was struggling at 99 for nine. IOB struck back, reducing Parry’s to 14 for two by close.

Spinners on song

Veteran off-spinner Aashish Kapoor scalped seven at Pachaiyappa’s on a day dominated by spinners to help Globe Trotters bowl Aruna out for 166. S. Anirudha top-scored with 46. Left-arm spinner R. Pandiarajan helped Aruna battle back, claiming four for 25, as Trotters ended the day on 94 for seven.

Spinners Ashwin (five for 70) and R. Ramkumar (four for 35) combined to dismiss Indian Bank for 205 at IIT-Chemplast. S. Dinesh Kumar made 49. Jolly Rovers, in reply, finished on 117 for four.

Left-hander S. Vidyut, batting at three, compiled a 142-ball 108 (8x4) at CPT-IP, as Alwarpet scored 253 for seven in 93 overs against India Pistons. At SRMC, X. Thalaivan Sargunam (84) and J.R. Madanagopal (64) added 102 for the second wicket, as Grand Slam made 264 for four against Vijay.

Half-centuries from R. Ravi Kumar (65), L.N. Prasad Reddy (94), S. Sathish Kumar (58), and K. Srinivasan (72) enabled Young Stars end on 331 for six against Eagle at RKM-Vivekananda.

The scores: IOB 189 in 74.3 overs (R. Rajesh Kannan 92, A.K. Suresh six for 49) vs. Parry’s 14 for two in 15 overs, at Murugappa.

Indian Bank 205 in 56.5 overs (S. Dinesh Kumar 49, R. Ashwin five for 70, R. Ramkumar four for 35) vs. Jolly Rovers 117 for four in 30.1 overs (S. Badrinath 41), at IIT-Chemplast.

Alwarpet 253 for seven in 93 overs (S. Vidyut 108) vs. India Pistons, at CPT-IP.

Grand Slam 264 for four in 90 overs (X. Thalaivan Sargunam 84, J.R. Madanagopal 64, S. Suresh Kumar 43 n.o.) vs. Vijay, at SRMC.

Venkat shines

P.R. Venkat Subramanian’s fine all-round performance (six for 71 & 94) enabled Sridhar CC script an eight-wicket win over Kohinoor XI in a third division ‘B’ zone encounter of the TNCA lower division league match held here recently.

Y. Sunny Kumar Singh’s 112 went in vain as Book Sellers lost to Magnet by three wickets in another third division ‘B’ zone match.
