NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said on Wednesday that he was seeking legal opinion before taking action against Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray for his comments against people from Bihar and north India MPs in Saamna. Mr Deshmukh, who earlier met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here, said if an editorial hurts the sentiments of the people it can create a law and order situation. He, however, said he has to take action against the publication, for which he needs to take proper legal opinion. “If there is a law and order problem on the street, you don’t need legal opinion, but in such matters one has to take legal opinion on how to proceed.” Mr. Deshmukh also let it be known how the media had played up the Raj Thackeray issue by repeatedly showing on television the same shots over and over again. “You see nothing happened in Mumbai, but in other parts like Pune and Nashik, people felt insecure.” While assuring full security to non-Marathis in Maharashtra, the Chief Minister admitted there had been migration but it also partially because of Holi. In an editorial in Saamna on Wednesday, Mr. Thackeray targeted Biharis saying that they were an “unwanted lot” in all parts of the country.
