‘CM stoking regional passions’
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has criticised the Congress and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for stoking regional passions among people for “selfish political ends.”
The Congress’ “divorce” with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti that culminated in the resignation of the TRS members from the Assembly and Council exposed the “rank opportunism” and the levels to which the Congress could stoop to remain in power, he said. Participating in the debate on the resignation of TRS members in the House on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu said the Congress owed an explanation on the reasons for the resignations as well as the charges of “betrayal” levelled against it. Congress leaders from Telangana, were now competing with each other in showering praises on the Chief Minister for the sake of Cabinet berths. Later, 22 TDP members including Mr. Naidu were suspended from the House for the day for obstructing the proceedings. Even as Mr. Naidu concluded his address, TDP member N. Janardhan Reddy sought an opportunity to clarify some charges made against him.
As the Panel Speaker Nadendla Manohar refused to heed his request, Mr. Janardhan Reddy persisted with the demand leading to his suspension.
