Kolkata: The Congress on Sunday hinted that it might support the Trinamool Congress in the coming Rajya Sabha poll in West Bengal. State Congress president Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said the party would not allow any situation to develop in which the CPI(M) would reap the benefits. “We don’t like to allow any situation which can benefit the CPI(M) in the coming Rajya Sabha election in the State,” Mr. Dasmunsi told reporters here. Despite Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s decision to go it alone in the panchayat poll, the Congress had kept its options open for a tie-up with anti-Left forces to defeat the Marxists and communal elements, he said. On Mamata’s decision to go it alone in the poll, Mr. Dasmunsi said: “As the chief of her party, Ms. Mamata Banerjee can take any decision. I can’t comment on that.” — PTI
