MANGALORE: The district unit of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU has opposed the move by the State Government to outsource the cooking of food for anganwadi children to International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Coinciding with State-wide agitations on the issue by various local wings of the CITU, the district unit on Saturday announced that it would launch agitations all over the district against the move. Speaking to The Hindu general secretary of Karnataka State Anganwadi Employees’ Association, an affiliate of CITU, S. Varalakshmi, said that one of the main briefs of anganwadis was to provide hygienic and nutritious food to children. By outsourcing this job, thousands of anganwadi workers would become jobless.
