Have a goal in life, Vairamuthu urges college students

HONOUR: Lyricist Vairamuthu giving away a prize to a student at the Founders’ Day celebrations of Pattukottai Polytechnic College.
PATTUKOTTAI: Lyricist Vairamuthu has appealed to students to have a goal in life.
Participating at Founders’ Day celebration of Pattukottai Polytechnic College here recently, he said to become a doctor or engineer was get into a department. But to have a goal such as inventing medicine for AIDS or constructing houses that would not be affected by tsunami was a goal in life. Students should strive to set a goal and achieve it through hard work and innovative thinking.
He said that in 50 years two countries would become super-powers. Both of them were in Asia — one was India and the other was China. The countries would become powerful in all aspects: human resource, technology, science and culture. India would have advantage over China as it had 60 per cent youth population. In China, it was vice-versa.
He appealed to students to get well-versed in spoken English.
S. Kannaiyan, Director of National Biodiversity Board, said India’s development was based on the development of villages as 60 per cent of the population was in villages.
Correspondent S.S.S. Selvam, its chairman S.D. Ramachandran and director N. Vaidyalingam participated in the function.
