ELATED: The winner of a painting competition receiving an award at Aranthangi.

ARANTHANGI: The Aranthangi unit of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Association and Semmozhi Uyar Aaiyvu Maiyam organised a literary week programme here recently. Door-to-door distribution of literary journals to motivate the members of the public to the rich values of Tamil literature marked the inaugural of the programme.

For children and students, a painting competition was held in which a large number of young and boys girls eagerly participated and gave vent to their feelings with the help of brush and paint.

A portrait of Tamil scholar U. Ve. Saminatha Iyer in rangoli drawn by the teachers of Ideal School and the paintings on Sangam literature by students of Naina Mohamed College, Rajendrapuram, and Government Higher Secondary School were the salient features of an exhibition.

Later in the evening, poet Mathi and Pudukottai district secretary of the writers association Pudukai Poovannan released a literary book and the first copy was received by Assistant Manager of ICICI Bank Jothikumar and president of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association Venkatachalam.

Two Tamil scholars K.R. Ramanan and K.R. Azhagar were felicitated on the occasion.

District president of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Association Rama Ramanathan paid rich tributes to U.Ve. Saminatha Iyer. Poet Julie distributed prizes to the winners of the painting competition.
