Panel set up to rehabilitate reformed bootleggers

Staff Reporter

ARIYALUR: The district administration has constituted a committee to identify reformed bootleggers and provide financial support to them for income generation.

The 14-member committee has Collector V.M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam as ex-officio chairman and the District Superintendent of Police as member-secretary. It is also represented by two members of the public, Rev. Lawrence from the Social Service Centre in Thuraimangalam and R. Panchanathan.

By bringing the reformed bootleggers under the government schemes, the district administration is keen to help them lead respectable lives.

Other members of the committee include: Additional Superintendent of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing), Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency, Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam, District Social Welfare Officer, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer and District Backward Classes Welfare Officer.

The committee will hold sittings on March 4 and 11 here to finalise the list of beneficiaries eligible for interest-free loans meant for self-employment. Officials of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation, Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation and Khadi and Rural Industries Department will integrate them into the rehabilitation schemes.

The beneficiaries will be provided with quality goats, cows and other milch animals. A committee, chaired by the Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry Department, will oversee purchase and distribution of the animals, the Collector said.
