New Delhi: India ended its participation in the World team table tennis championships on a positive note with both its men and women registering victories on Saturday. The men’s team came back from an early deficit to beat Slovenia 3-1 to finish 33rd, while the women edged past Luxembourg 3-2 to secure the 31st spot in the second division. A. Sharath Kamal lost 11-9, 4-11, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11 to Slovenia’s Sas Lasan. The Indian led twice, but could not finish the job. Pathik Mehta restored parity with a 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 win over Mitja Horvat and Subhajit Saha also had a straight games victory over Uros Slatinsek 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 before Sharath sealed the tie with a 13-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-9 verdict over Horvat. In the women’s section, Neha Agarwal lost to Luxembourg’s Xia Lian Ni 3-11, 6-11, 4-11. However, Poulomi Ghatak made it 1-1 defeating Simone Haan 11-9, 11-8, 11-3. Mouma Das put India ahead beating Carole Hartmann 13-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9, but Poulomi failed to seal the victory as she lost 3-11, 6-11, 2-11 to Xia Lian Ni. In the final match, Neha defeated Simone Haan 12-10, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9. Other results: Women: Final: China bt Singapore 3-1.
