All-India Railway cricket

CHENNAI: The Southern Railway Sports Association will conduct the all-India Railway cricket championship (mini-league, Pool ‘D’) here from March 3 to 13.

The six teams — Southern (Chennai), North Eastern (Gorakhpur), East Central (Hajipur), South Eastern (Kolkata), Chittaranjan Loco Works (Chittaranjan) and Diesel Locomotive Works (Varanasi) —will play each other in a round-robin league. The top two teams will qualify for the quarterfinals.

“Simultaneously, tournaments will be held in three other zones —Pool ‘A’ in Kolkata, ‘B’ in Mumbai and ‘C’ in New Delhi. The top two teams from each pool will play in the knock-out stage in Mumbai in April,” said S. Anantharaman, Secretary, Southern Railway Sports Association and Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Marketing). Eastern Railway is the defending champion. — Principal Correspondent
