Bangalore University wins overall title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bangalore University won the overall title in the all-India inter-University aquatic meet which concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Friday.

Bangalore, which came first in both men’s and women’s sections, logged 133 points. Calicut University (70) and Andhra (47) finished second and third respectively.

Rehan Poncha of Bangalore, who won seven gold medals in the meet, was the individual champion in men’s section with 42 points. V. Tejaswini of Bangalore was the individual women’s champion (63 points).

The results: Men: 50m freestyle: 1. Chaturvedi Dhananjay (Gujarat), 2. Thulasi Chaitanya (Acharya Nagarjuna), 3. Tarun Kumar Tokas (Delhi), (0:25.47); 100m breast stroke: 1. Lonkar Yashodhan (Pune), 2. Anoop Augustine (Calicut), 3. Srinand Srinivas (Rajeev Gandhi) (1:10.97); 100m butterfly: 1. Tarun Kumar Tokas (Delhi), 2. Srinand Srinivas (Rajeev Gandhi), 3. V. Abhishek (Bangalore), (0:59.43).Women: 50m freestyle: 1. Amreen Malik (Andhra), 2. V. Tejaswini (Bangalore), 3. A. R. Rohini (Kerala), (0:29.09); 100m breast stroke: 1. Prena S. Jain (Bangalore), 2. V. Tejaswini (Bangalore), 3. M. Mini (Calicut), (1:22.30 – New Meet Record; Old Record – 1:22.62, M. S. Divya, 2006); 100m butterfly: 1. V. Tejaswini (Bangalore), 2. Amreen Malik (Andhra), 3. Pooja Ghorpade (Pune), (1:08.87). Overall championship: 1. Bangalore (133 pts), 2. Calicut (70), 3. Andhra (47). Men: 1. Bangalore (54), 2. Rajeev Gandhi (30), 3. Calcut (29). Women: 1. Bangalore (79), 2. Andhra (47), 3. Calicut (41). Individual champion: Men: Rehan Poncha (Bangalore) – 42 points.
