G.K. Motors HC on top

Madurai: G.K. Motors Hockey Club (Madurai), which recorded a 4-2 win over Pudukottai Hockey Club in the morning, whipped Star Hockey Club, Karur 15-0 in the evening in the Madurai Regional SDAT-TN Hockey Association league at the Ellisnagar hockey ground here on Wednesday.

G.K. Motors leads the table with 9 points (3 wins), while New Gupta Hockey Club, Dindigul and Pudukottai Hockey Club have 7 points each. Pudukottai finished its fixtures but Dindigul has to play one more match against G.K. Motors and the match between these two on Thursday will decide the winner.

Arockiamatha wins

Arockiamatha Matriculation HSS and Lawrence HSS won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively inhe district-level inter-Shool handball tournament, conducted by the chi District Handball Association on Wednesday.

The results: Final: Boys: Arockiamatha MHSS bt SBIOA MS 7-3.

Girls: Lawrence HSS bt St. Vincent MS 6-4.

Feroz scores a brace

Feroz Khan struck twice as Golden Arrows FC edged out Kennedy FC 3-2 in a Tiruchi DFA second division ‘B’ Zone football league fixture on Tuesday. Jagadeesh scored the other goal for the winner. Sivanandam and Ganesh Kumar netted for the loser.

In a third division ‘B’ Zone league encounter, Kallakudi beat Jothi Micro 1-0 with Ramkumar scoring.

Hotel Nest Inn team selected

At Chennai, the Hotel Nest Inn team comprising N. Kirubakaramoorthy, Krishna Kumar, K. R. Venkataraman, R. Kannan, S.K. Chari and N. Niranjan from Tamil Nadu have been selected for the T. P. Khosla Trophy in the National bridge championships to be held in Aravangadda, Nilgiri District from April 7. The GKS team (R. Subbayyan, R. N. Subramanian, P. Narayan Iyer, S. R. C. Sekar, P. Asokan and Kalyani Isvaran) will also be competing for Khosla Trophy.

For the Agarwala Pairs Trophy to be held during the National bridge championships, three pairs have been selected after a selection trial held recently. The selected pairs are K. Krishna Kumar and K. R. Venkataraman, Sandeep Dang and Nirmal Kumar Jain, Prajwal and Vinoth Kumar. Interestingly, Prajwal, a student in IIT (Madras) will be the youngest player to take part in the tournament donning TN colours.
