New Delhi: India registered its second successive win in the World team table tennis championships defeating Norway 3-1 at Guangzhou, China, on Tuesday. Commonwealth Games gold medallist and reigning National champion A. Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha were once again the stars as they carried on with their fine form and won their respective matches. However, two-time National champion Soumyadeep Roy came a cropper yet again, losing 8-11, 6-11, 8-11 to Jianfeng Wang in the first match. Sharath levelled the match with a 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 win over Geir Erlandsen before Subhajit got the better of Espen Ronneberg 11-2, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9 to give India the lead. Sharath then wrapped up the issue with a comfortable 11-7, 11-2, 8-11, 11-6 win over Wang. The Indian men will take on Thailand in their final group tie. Indian women loseThe Indian women did not have a very good day and lost 2-3 to Australia. Neha Aggarwal put India ahead by beating Miao Miao 11-4, 4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-5 but the Aussies drew level when Jian Fang Lay beat Poulomi Ghatak 11-5, 13-11, 11-9. Mouma Das gave India the advantage again with a 12-10, 11-7, 12-10 win over May Cho but Poulomi lost once again, this time to Miao 7-11, 6-11, 5-11. In the final encounter, Neha went down fighting 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 15-13, 2-11 to Lay. The Indian women face Estonia in their final group tie. — PTI
