Tiruvallur, Dindigul score wins

Chennai: Tiruvallur and Dindigul posted wins in the S.S. Rajan Trophy inter-district cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

T. Devendra Kumar’s four-wicket haul and half-century, and K. Vinod Kumar’s 99 helped Dindigul beat Dharmapuri by 99 runs.

K. Sriram’s four wickets for 36 runs took Tiruvallur to an eight-wicket win over Kanyakumari.

At Madurai, Noorul Riaz’s unbeaten 78 and his 100-run second wicket partnership with Subramania Siva (52) helped Madurai defeat Salem by five wickets. Karur beat Villupuram by four wickets in another match.Prem Kumar slammed 168 as Coimbatore thrashed Sivaganga by 129 runs in Tiruchi. E. Suresh scored 101 as Vellore overcame Tiruchi by 98 runs in another tie.

The scores: At Chennai: Kanyakumari 108 in 26.2 overs (K. Sriram four for 36) lost to Tiruvallur 112 for two in 20.2 overs (J. Prashanth 47, Bhaskar 40 n.o.); Dindigul 244 in 48.3 overs (K. Vinod Kumar 99, T. Devendra Kumar 54) bt Dharmapuri 145 in 37.3 overs (T. Devendra Kumar four for 38).

At Madurai: Salem 202 for eight in 50 overs (Dushyanth 54, Ilayaraja 62) lost to Madurai 203 for five in 39.2 overs (Subramania Siva 52, Noorul Riaz 78 n.o.); Villupuram 111 in 30 overs (B. Nagaraj four for 38) lost to Karur 112 for six in 26 overs.

At Theni: Namakkal 235 for six in 50 overs (N. Suresh 108, N. Chaiman Durai four for 47) bt Kanchipuram 152 in 43.1 overs (Vijay Bharathan 73); Thiruvannamalai 179 in 35.3 overs (Sunil five for 26) lost to Erode 180 for seven in 47 overs.

At Tiruchi: Coimbatore 368 for six in 50 overs (Prem Kumar 168, K. Hari Prasad 96, P. Vinoth Kumar four for 65) bt Sivaganga 239 in 43.2 overs (I. Selvaganapathy 50, R. Varadarajan 46, A. Aslam Sheik Khan four for 41); Vellore 238 in 47.4 overs (E. Suresh 101) bt Tiruchi 140 in 31.3 overs (M. Suresh 40); Nagapattinam 139 in 42.5 overs (P. Sakthi four for 10) lost to Thanjavur 143 for four in 28.4 overs (K. Anbalagan 62 n.o.); Krishnagiri 172 in 49 overs (S. Sangodan 53) lost to Nilgris 175 for four in 40.5 overs (Sasi 40).
