One killed in group clash

THENI: One person was killed and three others injured in a clash between two rival groups in the DMK at Uthamapalayam over filing of nominations for the party functionary election on Monday. The deceased was Paramasivam (42) of Lakshminaickenpatti. The injured – Kandasamy (60), Murugan (40) and Kannan (39), who had received knife injures – were admitted to the Theni Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Heavy police were deployed in the town as the situation was very tense.

The district unit of the DMK announced that filing of nomination for party functionary posts in 34 places in Uthamapalayam would be held on February 25 and 26.
