Road in bad shape

The road between K. Pudur ITI bus stand to industrial estate via Government ITI is in a worst condition.

Quite often, two wheeler riders meet with accidents on this stretch. So, I request the authorities to do patch work immediately.

Jobs abroad

We read news, of late, in dailies that unskilled workers from Tamil Nadu, who go for employment in construction companies in countries like Bahrain, Dubai, Africa make allegations of confinement in cells, improper food, less pay, tough working conditions etc., Before signing the contract and leaving the country, they should obtain complete information about the country, the company, the atmosphere etc.

In a hurry to go abroad to make money, they sign the contract agreeing to all conditions. When the environment and facilities are not to their expectation, they turn disappointed and home-sick, and somehow wanted to come back. Hence, they make allegations of inhuman sufferings which are made to be flashed in dailies and other media. Such acts on the part of the workers from Tamil Nadu not only cause embarrassment to the employer and the embassies, but also spoil the name of workers from Tamil Nadu.

The Government should discourage such workers going abroad.

Bus service to airport

Although some city bus services are operated between the Periyar Bus Stand and the airport, they don’t appear to be effectively taking care of the needs of air passengers bound for different destinations to and from Madurai. In the absence of city bus services to and from the city and aerodrome at the time of arrival and departure of flights, the passengers are taken for a ride by the autorickshaw and taxi drivers. It is requested that the TNSTC introduces additional services or recast the existing pattern to suit to the passengers arriving and leaving by morning and evening flights.

Transformation of Madurai

This has reference to a news item “Vandiyur lake to be tourist attraction” on February 23.

The Collector is quoted to have said the city needed to “leapfrog from a mega-village into a metropolis.”

It is a fact that Madurai was in the forefront. If it lags behind, it is mainly because of local administration only. Further, vantage points where Corporation owns land/existing old structures (such as shopping complex opposite Thevar statue) old structures are to be replaced with majestic complexes to boost the city’s image.

For all such planning, Madurai indeed needs a city development corporation.

A tall claim

I applied for a new broadband connection from BSNL on January 29,2008, vide their D/N No. W469217 under Home-250 plan with an option of advance rent of one year and with another option of making payment vide my succeeding month’s landline telephone bill. However I was asked by the BSNL to make an advance payment of Rs.4,009. I made the payment on February 4, 2008, vide their receipt No. 016022237 and bill No. W469217 dated February 4, 2008. Contrary to their tall claim/advertisement that the public can get instant connection, I have not been provided with the new broadband connection and almost a month has passed.

A. Natarajan,

Madurai.
