Rs. 129-crore works taken up in Tiruvarur district

TIRUVARUR: Public Works Department has taken up 78 works in Tiruvarur district at a cost of Rs. 129 crore, said Collector M. Chandrasekaran here on Monday.
Out of these works, 25 have been completed, 24 are being carried out and 29 are to be started. The important work to be started is the construction of a medical college building at a cost of Rs.100 crore. A 48-bed ward, overhead tank and ambulance station and a ward at maternity hospital at Vijayapuram have been completed.
Many works like construction of additional buildings for schools and veterinary centres with the assistance from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development are going on. An extension building at Korkai Cattle farm and veterinary sub-station buildings at Anaikuppam, Pavattakudi, Cholapandi, Vattar have been completed.
Under Mahalir Thittam, 200 members of women self-help groups will be given skill training in the district by various organisations. The training will begin on March 7, the Collector said.
