Collector sanctions Rs. 9 lakh for road
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: Collector D. Uthirakkumaran has sanctioned Rs. 9 lakh for laying road and constructing a culvert linking Nambanpatti and Kalabam villages near here.
Presiding over the monthly farmers’ grievances day meeting held here recently, the Collector said that this was needed by farmers of both villages in moving their agricultural produce.
The money would be released shortly from the Collector’s Discretionary Funds programme, he said.
Earlier, president of Village Development Committee from Nambanpatti N. Chelliah complained that the farmers were hard hit to market their produce for want of a culvert and road.
Pointing out that the Agriculture Department had taken steps to stock the seeds at its extension centres, the Collector said that 50 tonnes of paddy seeds; seven tonnes of pulses seeds; and 7.5 tonnes of oil-seeds have been stocked at all distribution outlets in the district. He appealed to the paddy-growers to shift to oil-seeds crops, pulses or maize as an alternative crop, utilising the realisation of rain waters.
District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam and Joint Director of Agriculture M. Kuppusamy were present.
