Damaged road

The section of Papanasam Road near Maruthamnagar bus stop of Vickramasingapuram is in a bad shape. This road is always busy as it is on the way to major tourist attractions such as Agathiar falls, Banatheertham, Karaiyar, Servalar, besides Courtallam.

Being narrow and with curves, this stretch is also damaged by water leaking from a canal passing adjacent to it. Actually the bank of the canal close to the road has a small outlet to divert water to the paddy fields nearby, but the drain is not deep enough hence it often breaches to enter the road and damages the road.

The situation is even worse during rains. Now, as road extension work is being carried out, it is time that a concrete drain of sufficient depth be constructed to prevent water from reaching the road.

Boisterous crowd

During the recent Masi festival of Subramaniya Swamy Temple at Tiruchendur, a renowned artiste from Bangalore was reciting Carnatic music at the temple auditorium in the evening. Under a temporary ‘pandal’ nearby, pilgrims were sitting, relaxing, eating food and gossiping and the vendors too contributed their share moving around them shouting the name of their ware thus making the entire atmosphere noisy.

Right from the beginning, the musician gestured that he was getting disturbed by the noise. A temple employee did go up to them and requested them to maintain silence but in vain. These artistes are brought by the sponsors spending thousands of rupees. No doubt these artists are honoured with honorium but go back disappointed feeling a sense of insult to the art. Needless to say the audience too go out of mood since they cannot enjoy the programmes in such an atmosphere. I request the authorities to do something so as to prevent recurrence of such situations in future.

Simplify procedure

The present complicated and time consuming drill for obtaining birth, death and legal heir certificates from taluk offices in Tamil Nadu may be simplified so that the issue of such certificates may not be unduly procrastinated. Needless to mention that the authorities take two to three months even though applicants make daily unfruitful visits to these offices.

Train services

Tirunelveli is the main hub for southern districts. The town is home to many outstation students. Besides, it is on an important tourist circuit. Moreover, people from this place work in other States. But unfortunately, train services serving Tirunelveli leave a lot to be desired. There are no direct train services to metros such as Bangalore and Hyderabad.

I request the railway authorities to start direct train services from Tirunelveli to these places.
