Grievance redressal: Tiruvannamalai Collector Satyabrata Sahoo receiving petitions from the public at the Collectorate in Tiruvannamalai on Monday. — TIRUVANNAMALAI: Tiruvannamalai Collector Satyabrata Sahoo handed over cheques to the tune of Rs.57.20 lakh to the office-bearers of the Village Poverty Reduction Committees (VPRCs) of 24 village panchayats for the implementation of the “Vazhndhu Kattuvom” scheme in their panchayats, at the public grievances day meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday. Mr. Sahoo said that works were in progress in the Puduppalayam panchayat union, which has been selected under the second phase of the scheme in the district. A total of 38 VPRCs have been formed under the scheme and these committees sought the sanction of funds for the implementation of the scheme. A sum of Rs.95.38 lakh, constituting the first instalment of 40 per cent of the funds, was received recently. Out of this amount, cheques for Rs.57.20 lakh were distributed to the president, secretary and treasurer of the VPRCs in Alliyendal, Amarnathapudur, Devanandal, Erayur, Kottakulam, Melapunjai, Muthanur, Narasinganallur, Nagappadi, Padi Agraharam, Pudur Chengam, Thoraippadi, Unnamalaipalayam, Veeranandal, Kanchi, Melapadur, C. Chengambattu, C. Nammiyandal, Japthi Kariyendal, Koradambattu, Kallarappadi, Mashar, Kulalpadi and Panai Olaippadi. The respective VPRCs would decide and utilise the funds for providing assistance to the differently abled and weaker sections, formation of self-help groups and training of SHGs. The Collector received 460 petitions from the public. They included 71 petitions seeking old age pension, 31 for widow pension, 60 for financial and other forms of assistance, 29 for land pattas, 24 for house site pattas, 28 seeking employment, and 26 seeking assistance for rehabilitation. G. Thamarai, District Revenue Officer, R. Latha, officer in charge of Vazhndhu Kattuvom, M. Vijayakumar, Information and Public Relations Officer, and R. Govindasamy and Thilagavathi, Assistant Project Officers, participated.
