ESIC marathon marks Foundation Day

WINNING HEARTS: A mini-marathon organised by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation at Anna Square on Sunday.

CHENNAI: Hundreds of runners thronged the Anna Memorial on Kamaraj Salai on Sunday morning.

The young and the old and women who ran the distance from the memorial to Light House and returned to the memorial, covering a 6-km stretch, were commemorating the 56th Foundation Day of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

The theme of the event was ‘A run to win hearts’. The participants were divided into five categories according to their age and gender. There were three prizes to be won in each category. Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan flagged off the run. Sportspersons Shiny Wilson, Sebastian Xavier, V. Bhaskaran, A.V. Joseph and Jai Shankar Menon were also present, a press release here said. Senior officials of the Corporation were also present at the function, the release added..
