Criticism against CBSE schools opposed

KOZHIKODE: The Bharatiya Vidya Niketan district committee has protested against the statement of Education Minister M.A. Baby against Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Council of Secondary Education (ICSE) schools in the State. The Minister had reportedly asked students to shun these schools and opt for the Malayalam medium ones.

The district committee said in a press release here on Sunday that since education was in the concurrent list of the Constitution, all citizens had the right to choose the type of education and type of educational institution that they wanted to study. Curtailing this was tantamount to trampling upon their rights.

The information technology sector was basing its employment tests in English. It was the need of the hour to retain and strengthen the CBSE- and ICSE- syllabus-based educational institutions, while giving emphasis to the mother tongue, Sanskrit and Arabic.

Hundreds of teachers work, and lakhs of students study, in CBSE and ICSE schools without accruing any benefit from the State government.

This was a relief to the general education sector. Hence, this sector should not at least be harmed by making such statements, it said.
