NGO organises medical camp

CHENNAI: As many as 220 people, many of them children, were screened at a medical camp conducted by non-governmental organisation Foundation for Rights of Young Child at Broadway here recently.
The camp, with which the students of the Social Work Department of Loyola College were also associated, was aimed at creating health awareness among the pavement dwellers on Muthuswamy Salai, Broadway.
According to a press release, several people face the risk of communicable diseases there. The residents have to cope up with inadequate water supply and sanitation. The children in the area are also malnourished.
A team of two doctors from the Institute of Child Health screened the patients and found that several of them were affected with respiratory problems.
Loyola College students will conduct health awareness programme in the area, the release added. The Foundation aims to promote the lives of underprivileged children and their rights.
