RJD leader shot dead

Bhagalpur (Bihar): RJD’s Bhagalpur district unit president Lakshmikant Yadav was shot dead by gunmen here late on Saturday evening, the police said.

Bullets were pumped into the body of Mr. Yadav when the rickshaw carrying him reached a railway level crossing at Noorpur under Nathnagar police station.

He was going to attend a cultural programme. Tension prevailed in the area as supporters of the slain leader did not allow the police to take his body for postmortem. No arrest was made till 10 p.m.

RJD national spokesman Shyam Rajak slammed the State government for failing on the law and order front.

Superintendent of Police J. S. Gangwar said the situation in the town was “tense but under control.” — PTI
