C.P. Singh Deo elected RFI president

HYDERABAD: Col. C.P. Singh Deo, incumbent secretary general of the Rowing Federation of India, will be the new president of the Federation for a four-year term after being elected unanimously at the full council meeting here.

M.V. Sriram and Chacko Kandathil, both from Tamil Nadu, were elected as the new secretary-general and treasurer respectively.

Brig. (Retd.) K.P. Singh Deo, incumbent President, Rowing Federation of India stepped down and did not seek re-election on completion of a cumulative term of eight successive years. He has been conferred the honour of the ‘President Emeritus’ of the Rowing Federation of India and will continue to guide and advise the Federation on all matters whenever required.

Other members of the Executive Council: Senior vice-president: T.C. Gupta. Vice-presidents: Dr. I.D. Sharma, G. Somasekharappa and Pramod Bhave. Joint secretaries: Amarjyoti Singh Deo & Pormod K. Singla.

Executive members: Smita Yadav, Rajlaxmi Singh Deo, Sandeep Gupta, Prabjeev Singh and Secretary of Services Sports Control Board.

Associate members: Girish Phadnis, Binod Dash, Ashok Mehta, Brig. Khurana, Ashok Sharma and Shakuntala Chanda. Permanent invitees: Secretary of Corps of Engineers (Army) and Vice-Commodore of Corps of Engineers (Army).

Easy win for SBI

State Bank of India recorded a 3-1 win over Tarnaka Football Club in the V. Hanumanth Rao Super Cup prize money football tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here.

The winner led 1-0 at the break through the effort of winger Hassan in the 14th minute. In the second session, striker Mohd. Shafi struck twice in the 40th and 44th minutes to give the bankmen a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Vasu reduced the margin in the 50th minute.

Ascendas chess

Ascendas Grandmaster chess tournament featuring employees of International Tech Park Bangalore, International Tech Park, Chennai, and The V and the CyberPearl (in Hyderabad) will be organised by Ascendas, a leading space provider, with Singapore Airlines and the Singapore Tourism Board as co-sponsors.

The Hyderabad-leg will commence from February 27.

The champions from each City will then compete in the final round in Bangalore from March 7.
