Airport gets night landing facility
R. Vimal Kumar
TUTICORIN: A long-cherished dream of the industrial fraternity here became a reality on Friday with the establishment of night landing facility at Tuticorin airport. The Rs. 1.14-crore runway lighting system was commissioned by K. Ramalingam, Regional Executive Director (Southern Region), Airports Authority of India.
Official sources said that high-intensity lighting gadgets, fitted with halogen lamps, had been placed along either side of the 1,350-metre-long runway. The gadgets are equipped with an optical apparatus that splits light output. Depending on the angle of approach, the lights will appear either red or white to the pilot.
Now, late evening flights can be operated.
