ASC in semifinals

KOTTAYAM: ASC (Bangalore) and Chennai’s Indian Bank entered the semifinals of the 14th YMCA all-India basketball tournament in the men’s league.

The seasoned G.R.L. Prasad and Antony Nixon came good as ASC defeated BSNL (Thiruvananthapuram) 67-53 in a Group ‘B’ game on Friday night after leading by just one point (28-27) at the break. Vijobi Vakkachan was the top-scorer for BSNL.

Indian Bank, which trailed 23-33 at half-time against ASC on Thursday night, recovered nicely in the next session to top the group and enter the semifinals.

The results (league): Men’s Group ‘B’: ASC (Bangalore) 67 (G.R.L. Prasad 21, Antony Nixon 20) bt BSNL (Thiruvananthapuram) 53 (Vijobi Vakkachan 23, Bobit Mathew 10).

Thursday night’s matches: Men: Indian Bank (Chennai) 75 (Puvaneswaran 24, Thangadurai 29, C.V. Sunny 13) bt ASC (Bangalore) 64 (Gautham 11, G.R.L. Prasad 10).

Women’s league: Western Railway 41 (Lincy Joseph 11) bt Kerala 21. — Principal Correspondent
