VISAKHAPATNAM: It will be a repeat final in the 15th edition of the annual The Hindu Trophy prize money tournament. Holder Metro CC beat Gajuwaka Greens by 116 runs and runner-up East Coast Railway Sports Association defeated Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council by 89 runs in Friday’s semifinals. Gajuwaka Greens lost the match at the ACA-VDCA Stadium but its two young bowlers, off-spinner S. Arjun Kumar and medium-pacer G.V. Sarath Babu impressed taking five wickets and three wickets respectively. Their good bowling saw a strong Metro scoring only 233, thanks to Man-of-the-Match B. Sumanth’s patient knock of 90 (2x4,1x6) and S. Kranthi Kumar’s 59 (2x4). But in its reply, Gajuwaka Greens was all out for 117 for nine (with one batsman retired not out). Andhra Ranji player H. Vatekar turned out an all-round show for VPSC but the Railway team ECoRSA had an easy outing at the Port stadium. VPSC could make only 171 chasing a target of 261. ECoRSA put up a good total thanks to contributions from D. Narendra Kumar (95, 9x4), K. Kumaraswami (42, 4x4) and a breezy 38 (7x4) by P. Madhusudhan. Vatekar and Ch. Radhakrishna picked up three wickets each. Narendra Kumar was adjudged Man-of-the-Match. The scores: Metro CC 233 in 48.2 overs (B. Sumanth 90, S. Kranthi Kumar 59, S. Arjun Kumar five for 56) bt Gajuwaka Greens 117 for nine in 38.3 overs; ECoRSA 260 in 50 overs (D. Narendra Kumar 95, K. Kumara Swami 42) bt V.P.S.C. 171 in 47.1 overs (H. Vatekar 51).
