Estrada excels

NEW DELHI: Argentine rider Santiago de Estrada fired five goals while Tunku Ismail Ibrahim slotted in two as Cavalry Red defeated Jaipur Polo Company (JPC) seven goals to three-and-a-half in the league match of the Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup 12-goal polo tournament here on Friday.

Estrada opened with two early goals and put JPC, which had started with half-a-goal on handicap, under intense pressure. Later Ibrahim joined in the party as the Cavalry team moved ahead.

For JPC, Manupal Godara (2) and Abhimanyu Pathak scored.

In the Ratanada Cup four-goal tournament, Arty defeated Navy 6-5 and Cavalry Black beat KIDC eight-and-a-half goals to two.

For Arty, Basheer Ali (3) and J. S. Shekhawat (2) scored after having started on one goal on handicap. Simran Shergill fired all five goals for Navy.

Ravi Rathore (4), Tarun Sirohi (3) and Apurv Mehra were the scorers for Cavalry team while Tony Singh and Tomar scored for KIDC. — Principal Correspondent
