BJP women’s rally today

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The BJP’s Mahila Morcha is expecting to gather about one lakh women from all over the country here on Thursday for a rally to demonstrate the party’s support for reservation for women in Assemblies and the Lok Sabha.

However, the party has almost given up on political consensus on 33 per cent reservation for women. It is now pushing the Election Commission formula, which, if adopted, will make it mandatory for the parties to give one-third of ticket to women.

The focus of the rally will be on women’s empowerment and development. It will be addressed, among others, by Mr. Rajnath Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani and Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj among others.
