Manyata PANAJI: The controversy over the recent marriage declaration by Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his long-time girlfriend Manyata took a new turn with the ‘Mamlatdar’ (senior government officer) of Salcete in south Goa, Paresh Phaldesai, on Monday issuing a notice to Ms. Manyata to be present before him on Tuesday. The ‘Mamlatdar’ has directed her to explain why the February 7 residence certificate issued to her by his office should not be cancelled. Following subsequent investigations by the Collector of South Goa, it was found that the documents supporting Ms. Manyata’s domicile certificate were fabricated. The ‘Talathi’ from Salcete, Prashant Kuncoliekar, was suspended for issuing the residence certificate to Ms. Manyata without due process. The office of the Sub-Registrar put on hold all the proceedings pertaining to the marriage pending an opinion from the Law Department. A journalist has challenged the marriage under the provisions of the Portuguese Civil Code (PCC) after the issue of the inadequacies of the domicile certificate surfaced.
