Congress responsible for attacks: BJP

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday charged the Congress with being largely responsible for the recent violent attacks on north Indians and other migrants in Maharashtra. It alleged that this insecurity was brewing in other Congress-ruled States also.

BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy told presspersons that the BJP had taken note of the growing uneasiness and insecurity among the migrant population in various States. “It is disturbing that mainly in Congress-ruled states such as Assam, Delhi and Maharashtra, a sinister campaign is on to unsettle, disturb and terrorise the migrant population.”

Mr. Rudy said out that the killing of people belonging to north India by ULFA extremists in Assam continued unabated.

The attempted censure in Delhi, by making identification compulsory, followed by the attacks in Maharashtra by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena showed that the Congress was somewhat patronising all these violent campaigns against the national interest.

This was the result of the blurred stance of the Congress-led UPA government “which is attempting to impose politics over national integrity.”

Mr. Rudy said that while people in Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa were being castigated leaders such as Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had failed to impress upon the Central government the need to protect the lives and properties of these people.

Reacting to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil’s statement that the BJP was a hurdle in the fight against Maoists, Mr. Rudy said playing the blame game did not absolve the Minister of his responsibility to address the growing menace of naxalism. “The country needs no clarification which political party and their allies are soft pedalling issues of terrorism and naxalism.”
