Sathyabama clinches title

TIRUCHI: Sathyabama Engineering College won all its semifinal league encounters to clinch the volleyball title at the South India-level inter-collegiate centenary tournaments, organised by St. Joseph’s College, here on Sunday.

DB Jain College and St. Joseph’s College took the second and third spot respectively.

The results: Volleyball: Semifinal league: Sathyabama bt DB Jain 25-17, 25-21, 26-24; DB Jain bt St. Joseph’s EC 25-20, 25-14, 25-21; St. Joseph’s bt St. Joseph’s EC 25-22, 25-23, 25-23. Ball badminton: Final: St. Joseph’s bt St. Joseph’s EC 28-29, 29-22, 29-25. Kabaddi: League: St. Joseph’s bt Loyola 27-19; Presidency bt Loyola 34-23; St. Joseph’s bt St. Joseph’s EC 26-17; Presidency bt St. Joseph’s EC 27-14; Presidency bt St. Joseph’s 24-22.

Shanmugasundaram shines

S. Shanmugasundaram’s all round performance (70 n.o. & four for 14) was the highlight of Urumu Dhanalakshmi College’s seven-wicket win over Golden Chariot ‘A’ CC in a Canara Bank – Tiruchi DCA first division league cricket match here.

The scores: First division: MAP CC 184 for eight in 41 overs bt Zephyrs CC 78 in 26.5 overs (K.S. Arunmozhi four for 28, S. Jagannathan five for nine). Golden Chariot ‘A’ CC 130 in 42.5 overs (P. Nethaji 41, S. Shanmugasundaram four for 14) lost to Urumu Dhanalakshmi College 131 for three in 22.4 overs (S. Shanmugasundaram 70 n.o.).

Second division: Southern Railway Institute 143 in 39.1 overs lost to Majestic CC 147 for four in 31.5 overs (Sathish 52). National College 126 in 36.3 overs (T. Krishnasamy four for 24) bt Jaguar CC 66 in 23.3 overs (D. Prabakaran four for 19).

Third division: Golden Chariot ‘B’ CC 191 for six in 34 overs (N. Kathiravan 42, R. Karthik 41 n.o.) bt OFT SA 132 for nine in 34 overs. Apollo CC 125 in 32.5 overs (R. Ramesh 40, M. Masthan Khader four for five) lost to Saranathan EC 129 for three in 27.5 overs.

Fourth division: Srinivasa Nagar Blues CC 109 in 27 overs lost to Lehar CC 110 for five in 25.2 overs (K. Mohan 52, L. Puviraj four for 17). Campion AI HSS 130 in 27 overs (N.K. Narayanan four for 24) bt Gifted XI CC 89 in 21.3 overs (Prabhu five for 15).

Fifth division: Young Sobers CC 109 in 29.3 overs (M. Rajashanmugam five for 26) lost to Kaveri RC 110 for six in 26.1 overs (M. Dinesh 50 not out).

Kennedy downs HMC

Kennedy downed HMC 2-0 in a Tiruchi DFA second division ‘B’ zone football league match here on Monday. Suresh and Sathish Kumar were the scorers.
