Motors draws with Reserve Line

Madurai: G.K. Motors Hockey Club and Reserve Line Sports Club drew 1-1 in the last match of the four-team district-level SDAT-MDHA hockey league at the Ellis Nagar Hockey ground here on Monday.

G.K. Motors and RLSC finished with 7 points (2 wins and one draw) each but G.K. Motors emerged winner on better goal difference and qualified for the Madurai regional league. Ever Great Hockey Club, Vadipatti and Thirunagar Hockey Club tied for the third place with one point (one draw and two losses) each but Ever Great finished third on goal difference.

The results: G.K. Motors drew with RLSC 1-1; Thirunagar drew with Ever Great 0-0; GK Motors bt Ever Great 5-2; RLSC bt Thirunagar HC 2-0; GK Motors bt Thirunagar 1-0; RLSC bt Ever Great 2-0.

Rasiah scalps seven

Rasiah’s seven for 16 helped Oliva Cricket Club carve out a 91-run victory over Oxford Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-MDCA first division ‘B’ zone league at Madurai on Sunday.

The scores: Oliva CC 255 in 49.1 overs (Mohanram 42, K.T. Kannan 61, Thariq Alam 47, Jayaprakash 40, Rafiq five for 58) bt Oxford CC 164 in 40.4 overs (Parthiban 40, Rasaiah seven for 16); Richards CC 134 in 28.5 overs lost to Eleven Star CC 135 for four in 24.5 overs (Suresh 49).

Second division: MC HSS 76 in 20.5 overs lost to Sun CC 78 for three in 14.4 overs; Fanatic CC 110 in 26 overs lost to Majestic Kits CC 112 for six in 23.4 overs.

Saravana shines

Saravana Kumar’s unbeaten 71 helped Harivarma Cricket Club defeat Infant Jesus Cricket Club by 29-runs in the DDCA third division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores: Harivarma CC 203 for seven in 24 overs (R.K. Sathish Kumar 54, Saravana Kumar 71 not out) bt Infant Jesus CC, Vedasendur 174 in 23.5 overs (P. Saravanan 40); Play Boys CC 147 for four in 20 overs (M. Senthil 66) bt Adith CC 123 for seven in 20 overs (G. Sankar Ganesan 52, M. Senthil four for 29).

Rajadurai sizzles

Riding on Rajadurai’s 77, India Cements Cricket Club chalked out a 114-run victory over Melbourne Cricket Club in the TDCA first division league at Tirunelveli on Sunday.

The scores: India Cements CC 275 for eight in 40 overs (Rajadurai 77, Nirmal Jeyaraj 62, Nataraj Sankar 45) bt Melbourne CC 161 in 35.5 overs; Lightning CC 206 in 28.5 overs (Ramasubbu 49, Saravanan 40, Veerasami four for nine) bt GK CC 161 in 26.3 overs (Ramasubbu four for 28).

Easy for Young CC

Mohan’s five for 20 helped Young Cricket Club defeat Packer Colts Cricket Club by five wickets in the Kanyakumari DCA first division league at Nagercoil on Sunday.

The scores: Packer Colts CC 185 in 40 overs (Naveen 60, Mohan five for 20) lost to Young CC 186 for five in 30.3 overs (Arul 46); Packer CC 228 for nine in 40 overs (Saju 42, Edwin 50 not out, Maria Madhan four for 37, Edwin Ramesh four for 34) bt Vantage CC 127 in 29 overs (Edwin Ramesh 39 not out, Edwin four for 41).

Ganesh triumphs

S. Ganesh Babu of Thiagarajar College won the open category title in the State-level open chess tournament at Madurai on Sunday.
