Organic farming
Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE: Deputy Inspector-General of Prisons B.M. Ezra inspected a vegetable garden raised through organic farming methods by a self-help group consisting of warders’ spouses, in the backyard of the Cuddalore Central Prison here on Saturday.
Jail Superintendent Incharge A. Murugesan accompanied him.
The SHG members told the DIG that besides meeting their household needs, the excess vegetables were being sold to those residing in the nearby Tamil Nadu Electricity Board quarters. The SHG had also taken up a project to start a poultry farm at the site.
Mr. Ezra gave instructions to the officials on how to fix electric fans in a secure manner in the cells.
The DIG appreciated the paintings of the prison inmates.
