Tiruchi men score easy win

TIRUCHI: Tiruchi men scored a 50-25 win over Villupuram in a first round encounter of the State-level basketball tournament, conducted by Tiruchi unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, here on Friday.

The results: First round: Men: Tiruchi 50 (Tamilarasan 18, Ganapathy 12) bt Villupuram 25; Theni 46 (Nambiraj 11) bt Tiruvannamalai 28; Tuticorin 52 (Sathish 15) bt Kancheepuram 44 (Moorthy 12); Nagapattinam 42 (Karunanidhi 11) bt Namakkal 16 (Varadarajan 14); Dharmapuri 38 (Manoj Prabhakar 10) bt Kanyakumari 15; Dindigul 51 (Jayacharan 15) bt Erode 27 (Prem Kumar 15); Nilgris 48 (Akeem 26) bt Vellore 27 (Albert 10).

St. Joseph’s advances

St. Joseph’s College defeated Clive’s Hostel 25-18, 25-17 and entered the semifinal league in volleyball at the South India-level inter-collegiate centenary tournaments, organised by St. Joseph’s College, here on Friday.

In a pre-quarterfinal encounter, DB Jain College overcame Sacred Hearts Hostel 25-17, 25-15.

HMC posts win

HMC downed PR Thevar 2-0 in a Tiruchi DFA second division ‘B’ zone football league fixture here on Friday. Vinoth Kumar and Tamilselvan were the scorers.

In a third division ‘B’ zone league encounter, Challenge Union defeated Jothi Micro 1-0. Kalaiarasan netted the winner.

Football trials

Tiruchi DFA will conduct trials to select Tiruchi district team for the 24th sub-junior State football championship on February 18 at Teppakulam Bishop Heber HSS from 5 p.m.

Hat-trick by Shygin

Shygin’s hat-trick saw Karunya University score a comfortable 5-1 win over Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science in the fourth inter-State inter-collegiate football tournament for the Sree Naryana Guru Rolling Trophy at the SNGC grounds, Coimbatore, on Friday.

Earlier, Maria Jaison struck in the 37th minute to guide St. Jude’s (Thuthoor) to a solitary goal win over Guruvayoorappan College (Kozhikode).
