Congress defends price hike

NEW DELHI: The All-India Congress Committee on Thursday defended the petrol and diesel price hike as “the minimum possible” increase and said that the decision was delayed to the maximum extent possible.

Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said a large part of the potential increase had been “absorbed” and other oil-related products had not been touched.

“The government has taken maximum possible safeguards to deal with a situation not of its making,” he said.
