TNSABA to host Asian junior event

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Amateur Boxing Association (TNSABA) will celebrate its platinum jubilee year by hosting the Asian junior championship for men and honouring the State’s past and present champions in a grand function.

The prominent tournament, scheduled in late 2008 although the date hasn’t been finalised, will be a first for the TNSABA.

Recognising achievements

The association, in its 75th year, will recognise the achievements of Tamil Nadu’s boxers, many of whom have been successful at the highest level. It will also publish a souvenir to commemorate the occasion.

The Member of Parliament and TNSABA chairman, A.K. Moorthy, said the association will focus on developing the sport in the rural areas.

The programmes include setting up a boxing academy in Kancheepuram, training physical directors from District schools, and conducting refresher courses for referees. — Special Correspondent
