Kapil Dev files petition
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Former India captain Kapil Dev has filed a case against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the Delhi High Court for having stopped the pension due to him. Kapil’s petition has listed the BCCI and Union of India as respondents. Kapil, who fell out of favour with the authorities following his decision to promote the Indian Cricket league (ICL) that was termed a ‘rebel’ venture by the BCCI, has argued that a player should not be denied pension for services rendered in the past.
Kapil said he was taking up the issue on behalf of many other cricketers whose pension was stopped by the BCCI when they joined the ICL.
Among the charges levelled in the writ petition filed by the Essel Sports Limited is the contention that the Board had altered the word ‘pension’ to ‘Benevolent Fund.’
