Crop loss: Left for compensation to ryots

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Committee has demanded that the Government conduct a survey to assess crop losses incurred by farmers due to untimely rains in Prakasam district on war-footing and provide compensation of not less than Rs.10, 000 an acre of crop lost.

The CPI(M) wanted complete waiver of loans obtained by farmers in the district from cooperative and commercial banks.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu expressed concern that red gram crop loss that was about to be harvested was damaged in 88,000 acres resulting in loss of Rs. 176 crore to farmers. .
