Axa registers emphatic win

Bangalore: Axa registered a 10-wicket victory over Bytes and Foods in the Polycom Twenty20 inter-corporate cricket tournament played over the weekend here.

Bytes & Foods, opting to bat, made 117 as Vinayak grabbed five for 26 for Axa, which later cruised to the target without losing a wicket with openers Naveen (76 not out) and Kumar (43 not out) leading the charge.

The next set of matches will be played on February 16 and 17 at the HMT Watch factory, SGIS and Loyola grounds.

Mihir prevails

Mihir Roy Choudhary prevailed over Harsh Lakhani 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the boys’ under-14 singles, in the Tennis Advantage all-India ranking junior tennis tournament which began here on Monday.

Mihir, however, lost in the under-18 section to Siddharth Dabrai in straight sets 2-6, 0-6.

Narrow win

Vijaya CC defeated Young Cricketers by two wickets in an MTR Nivarana Basavanagudi Cup cricket tournament match here on Monday. Young Cricketers scored 156 in 26.5 overs and Vijaya CC won in 26 overs with Harsha chipping in a 41.

Fitness course

The Level One course for fitness trainers from South Zone, West Zone and Vidharba region commenced at the National Cricket Academy here on Monday.

The trainers underwent sessions with the resource panel consisting of Paul Chapman, Dr. K. Suratwala, Paul Close and Rohit Wagh. The course will conclude on February 15. Last week, the trainers from North and East Zones participated.

The trainers: Manoj Kumar, B. Ananthasayanam (both TNCA), Moby Thomas, Atul Meethal (both Kerala CA), Bharat Rao, Vijay Chavan (both KSCA), G. Sashikanth, M. Srikanth (Andhra CA), Amit Tembhurne (Vidarbha CA), Rupesh Pawar, Rahul Prakash Patil (both Mumbai CA), Swadesh Nagre, Nilesh Khaire (both Baroda CA), Ashish Tibrewala and Rahul Patwardhan (both CCI Mumbai).

Anuradha qualifies

The Indian Iron-man athlete Anuradha Vaidyanathan has qualified for the World Half-Iron Man championship scheduled to be held at Clearwater, Florida in November. Anuradha made the cut for the World championship on the basis of her performance in Geelong half-Iron man event in Australia held last week, which she finished in six hours and 57 minute.

“I am proud to be the first Indian to qualify for the World half Iron-Man and I will train hard and do my best,” said the athlete in an e-mail to The Hindu here.
