Andal (Burdwan district): Financial constraints to rural electrification projects have been overcome and electricity can be provided to all by 2012, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Monday. “There was a money constraint under the 10th Five-Year Plan.” But under the 11th Plan, Rs. 28,000 crore was granted to the power sector. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also promised more funds if necessary for rural electrification under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana. “As soon as the schemes are sanctioned, money will be released.” Mr. Shinde was here to lay the foundation stone for the 1000-MW Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Project , a greenfield project to be implemented by the Damodar Valley Corporation on an outlay of Rs. 4,457 crore. Consisting of two coal-based modern units of 500 MW each and located two km from the Andal railway station, it is one of the three DVC projects which will supply power to Delhi beginning from the Commonwealth Games, 2010
