Stone laid for park near Gandhi Irwin Road

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: What was once a dumping site for construction debris opposite the Thalamuthu Natarajan building on Gandhi Irwin Road, Egmore, will soon become a park.

About 1.5 acres of the Corporation land here will be converted into a park with a fountain, playing area, lawns and ornamental plants at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh.

Information Minister and M.L.A. of the Egmore constituency Parithi Illamvazhuthi laid the foundation stone for the project on Saturday.

The project is being developed with his constituency development fund, according to a press release.

He announced that the park would be ready in two months.

G. Revathy, who would be representing India at an international carom competition in France, was felicitated on the occasion.

Mayor M. Subramanian, Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni, Corporation officials and other elected representatives participated.
