Poppy seeds seized

CHENNAI: Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized a consignment of poppy seeds from Karachi worth Rs.3.1 crore here on Friday. Acting on intelligence that poppy seeds were being smuggled into the country in the garb of pulses, DRI searched a shipment of green gram and founf 1,060 bags of poppy hidden among the more than 2,000 bags. While the Puducherry-based importers claimed that the shipment was from Singapore, the DRI discovered that the seeds were shipped from Karachi.
