CHENNAI: A last-minute goal by Saravanakumar saved the embarrassment of a drawn match for the reigning champion Indian Overseas Bank against Food Corporation of India in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Thursday. IOB won by the odd goal in three after being 1-1 at half-time. Stunned by a penalty corner goal by Kausikan for FCI midway in the first-half, IOB had to pool all its resources to search for the equaliser. Close on the half-time, IOB achieved parity when Felix slotted in a penalty corner. Neither side gave up from that point till the last minute when a draw looked imminent. But IOB snatched the match-winner off a goal by Saravanakumar. In another encounter, Tamil Nadu Special Police prevailed over State Bank of India 4-0. Sadhat Khan put Police in the lead in the early minutes. Before the break, Krishnakumar enlarged the margin and shortly after resumption, Sudarshan widened the leeway which was further extended by Ramesh Kumar to give Special Police a convincing victory. Easy for Nandha CollegeNandha College (Perunthurai) defeated DB Jain (Chennai) 2-0 in the Rev. Fr. G. Francis SJ Memorial South India-level inter-collegiate hockey tournament at Loyola College here.
