Thumping win for IOB

Chennai: Indian Overseas Bank overwhelmed Madras Blues 6-1 in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Monday. The winner led 5-0 at half-time.

Prompted by an early field goal by L. Anandan, IOB, the league champion, piled up the pressure to subdue the rival defence.

A penalty corner by M. Sendhil enlarged the lead and this was followed by a goal from Senthil Kumar.

Midway through, Olympian Adam Sinclair struck and before half-time Felix made the issue almost beyond doubt.

In the closing minutes, IOB struck again through Saravana Kumar. A minute before the hooter came the consolation goal for Madras Blues through Durant Antony.

Earlier, a field goal by Ayyappan in the first half helped Sports Authority of India ‘A’ beat Southern Railway ‘B’ by a solitary goal.

Riju nets winner

State Bank of India defeated Madras Sporting Union 1-0 in a CFA senior division football league match here at the JN Stadium on Monday. P.C. Riju was the goal-scorer.

The first division game between Challengers Union and FCI ended in a 1-1 draw. Selambarasan gave Challengers the lead in the 37th minute before Pradeep equalised in the 71st.

Prahalad shines

K.S. Prahalad’s unbeaten 64 enabled Vidya Mandir ‘A’ to beat St. Michael’s by 104 runs in a quarterfinal match of the Vidya Mandir-Sportstar under-13 cricket tournament held in Chennai on Monday.

The scores (quarterfinals): Vidya Mandir ‘A’ 151 for five in 30 overs (K. S. Prahalad 64 n.o.) bt St. Michael’s 47 in 13.1 overs (Hari Mahesh three for 20, Nikelesh four for 15).

Chettinad Vidyshram 123 for eight in 30 overs (Samrudh 27 n.o.) lost to PS SSS 124 for nine in 26.1 overs (Adityan 25, Aravind Mahadevan 25, M.S. Suraj 25, Kaushik. U. Ram three for 18).

Don Bosco 153 for five in 30 overs (Michell Mannays 39, Akash Kadal 50) lost to PSBB (K.K. Nagar) 154 for three in 27.2 overs (Karthik Ganesh 57, R. Akash 48).

St. Bede’s AIHSS 76 in 30 overs (Md. A. Kader 25 n.o., Sai Rupesh three for nine, V. Arun Aanand three for six) lost to Santhome HSS 77 for two in 25.1 overs (Prasanna 28 n.o.).

Narrow win for FSCA ‘A’

FSCA ‘A’ registered a narrow two-wicket win over Asiatic CA in the K.R. Sundararajan memorial Trophy under-13 cricket tournament, conducted by the Future Stars Cricket Academy.

FSCA ‘D’ 97 for nine in 30 overs lost to JS Rao CA 99 for one in 14.2 overs (Ratish Manikandan 32).

FSCA ‘C’ 146 for five in 30 overs (Vishal Rathod 51, Manikandan 29) lost to Kedar CA 148 for four in 21.5 overs (Adithya 63).

Maharishi VM posts win

Maharishi Vidya Mandir defeated Asan Memorial School by 27 runs in the P.C. Sekhar Memorial under-13 cricket tournament on Monday.

The scores: Maharishi Vidya Mandir 107 for eight in 30 overs (S. Krishnan 25, C. Kishore Kumar three for nine) bt Asan Memorial School 80 in 22.3 overs (S. Kirupa Shankar three for 10).

Sudharsanam scalps six

Sudharsanam returned figures of six for 33 to help Adambakkam CC to a 44-run win over Flakt India RC in the KDCA first division cricket league.

First division: Gurunanak Combines 128 in 29.3 overs (T.K. Janakiraman five for 44) lost to Brindavan CC 132 for eight in 29 overs; Adambakkam CC 157 in 29.1 overs (Kevin Sukumar 46, D. Srinivasan four for 41) bt Flakt India RC 113 in 22.4 overs (Jagadish 44, Sudharsanam six for 33).

Arun triumphs

Arun Murugappan (+4 points) won the gold division in the Madras Gymkhana Club Bombay medal golf tournament in Chennai.

Darshan Veeraraghavan (+2 points) was the runner-up. F. Kiran (+6) finished on top in the silver division, while R. Shivaraj (+5) was the runner-up.
