Textile Park to be a reality in Karur soon

KARUR: In what is an answer to the prayers of textile industry stakeholders, the Karur Textile Park is all set to become a reality soon. Work on the park has picked up and is moving at a rapid pace.

The park is coming up at Thalapatti village, 10 km from here on the Karur-Dindigul Highway. Styled the Karur Textile Park Limited, it is spread over all of 110 acres and is divided into sheds or units of one, two and three acres each. The park is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs.120 crore and has a lot of amenities to be ranked as a state-of-the-art textile park.

While the contour survey has already been done and construction of the boundary wall is under way, hydro geological survey has also been completed, according to the KTPL Chairman M. Nachimuthu. Construction of factory units and support amenities would then be taken up at a cost of Rs.59.5 crore. There are 42 shareholders in all. About 25 per cent of the margin money has already been collected from the shareholders, Mr. Nachimuthu says.

The facilities and amenities to be provided within the park include a small dispensary, a mini-super market, crèche, fire and rescue office, three canteens, a post office, a bank, workshops, training centre, warehouse, guest house, showroom, exhibition hall and convention centre.

It has been planned to establish 350 looms in the park. All works will be completed and the park will be ready by March 2009.
