CHANDIGARH: The Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda sect head Baba Ram Rahim Gurmeet Singh had a miraculous escape near Nilokheri in Karnal district on Saturday after a powerful blast hit his cavalcade in which at least two cars in the rear were badly damaged and six persons injured. The Baba, who was returning from Ambala after appearing before a court there, was reported to be safe. The route of the cavalcade was immediately changed after the incident. According to reports reaching the State headquarters, a tyre reportedly filled with explosives was hurled at the cavalcade from a truck. The truck driver and his cleaner were later arrested and are being interrogated by senior police officers who rushed to the spot. A CFSL team also left for the spot. Other unconfirmed reports, however, said that the tyre of the truck had “burst”. The Baba enjoys high security in view of threats to his life from Sikh organisations. The injured were taken to Karnal for medical treatment. There was panic and supporters of the Baba, who is facing charges of alleged murder and rape, held up traffic on NH-1.
